,

Are you wanting some adventure in your life? Do you want to visit a country that is affordable and not so mainstream? Then you must visit Tunis, Tunisia. I seriously cannot tell you how beautiful Tunis is.. and  the people are hands down the most hospitable people I have ever come across.

I had to return back to the US from Pakistan, and wanted to make a pit stop some where in between. I was considering Istanbul, but literally last minute one of my closest friends from college convinced me to visit him in Tunis.  I wanted to see him more than I wanted to visit Tunis.

Not going to lie, I was kind of nervous to be going for 5 days. I wondered, what in the world would I do for 5 days in Tunis? Its a small country.. you can barely find anything about it on google- It didn’t seem like many people visited it. But, well, I wanted to see my friend… so I was going to do it.

My flight was from Islamabad to Istanbul to Tunis. Needless to say, I was extremely exhausted by the time I landed in Tunis.
The first impression- well, it was OK! haha- There was the longest queue for immigration and it was just ONE line for everyone. Took me ages to get passed it. Once, I was done, I went to grab my luggage.. the airport security is pretty strict there. They were checking most bags separately .. in the end they decided to not check my bags.. phew! I just wanted to get out.

My friend Z was there to greet me. It was so nice to see him- did not feel like it had two years since we had last seen each other.. We did a quick tour of the city while on our way to his family house… His mom had cooked chicken and rice for us.. Tunisian style. YUMMY!

The house it self was gorgeous. Mediterranean style.. windows open to let the fresh breeze in.. sky was clear outside, and I could hear the prayer call. Oh and cats, there are cats every where.. and super friendly.

Before making this a lengthy post, I’ll just get to the point and share my iteniary and some photos to convince you to visit this beautiful place 🙂

Day of Arrival:
Short tour of the city. Dinner at home, shower and unpack and then a night drive through the city to see all the landmarks

Day 2:
Tunisian style home-cooked breakfast by my friends beautiful mother and everyday for the rest of my trip, his dad left fresh croissants for me on the dining table for when I woke up – I felt so loved and taken care of <3

We went to the medina– the old city was full of history and beautiful architecture and DOORS.. so many beautiful colourful doors.
There’s a beautiful mosque in there as well (Make sure to be fully covered and respectful).. we checked out a few rooftops with city views and of course shopped! I got some Kaftans that I wear as pjs and around the house. If you don’t have one, get one- they are so comfy! Trust me haha..

We grabbed lunch in between shopping at a place called foundouk el attarine.

Ended the tour of medina at a near by hotel rooftop bar.. watched the sunset and came home to some home cooked coucous- My favourite!!

After dinner, I showered and got ready to hit the city to check out Tunis’s night life at Gamrath.

Day 3:

I slept in and caught up on rest after the exhausting travels. After some breakfast, and dressing up-  we headed to this gorgeous restaurant by the sea, called Le Rocher. The views were breathtaking, the food was top notch and they had live music <3

After our lunch we headed to a bar and met up with some more friends/locals and hung out. It was chill day but my introvert self was tired after so much socialising haha

Day 4:

We headed to Sidi Bou Said for lunch to meet my other college friend and her mom. Seriously food was mouth watering in every single place that we went to.. and beautiful views! Sometimes it felt like Greece, and sometimes like Italy- but Tunis has its own beauty and charm.

After lunch we walked around the markets of Sidi Bou Said and checked out the neighbourhood while walking to my friend KD’s apartment in the area. She served us some juice/beer and we watched the sunset from her balcony.
After that, Z and I went to a sports bar (The factory) to meet his friends and watch a soccer game and then I went to dinner with his parents at a traditional Tunisian restaurant.

Day 5:
KD, Z and I met up for lunch with KD’s parents the KD and I went for dress fitting for her big day.. after that we did some shopping and grabbed coffee at Marsa.
Then Z’s mom took me a hamam for a nice relaxing cleansing bath.. I love spa days.

I came home and had a family dinner, packed up my suitcase, slept for a few hours and then headed to airport to head back to the US.

I was truly so sad to be leaving- easily one of the best trips I have ever taken. Go to Tunis and see it for yourself. You’ll love it!
I cannot wait to go back again!
